Power-sharing brings greater satisfaction

Article Abstract:

Parents of children with learning difficulties have a greater say in the provision of care for their children at a UK Mental Health Trust based in South Cumbria. Parents can become involved in the process of staff selection by working together as a team to assess potential candidates. Over 80 staff have been appointed using a combination of parental and professional interviews, with the standard of work very high from all chosen. Early doubts by management as to the viability of such a selection technique have been overcome by the success of the project.
