Precision weapons

Article Abstract:

Advances in weaponry to score numerous victories against cancer, by creating drugs that strike at the heart of tumours, by zeroing on the genetic abnormalities that make cells grow uncontrollably are presented. It is revealed that the war against cancer is far from being won, yet the molecular targeted treatments prove to be one of the most important turning points in determining the outcome.

Validating STAT3 in cancer therapy

Article Abstract:

STAT3 has become an ideal anticancer target as it is persistently activated in over a dozen types of human cancers, including all the major carcinomas and some hematologic tumors. It has become activated by phosphorylation on a single tyrosine residue, dimerize through reciprocal SH2-phosphotyrosine interaction, and accumulate in the nucleus.

Erythrpoietin may impair, not improve, cancer survival

Article Abstract:

Two clinical trials and various other studies yielded unexpected negative results against the prescription of Erythropoietin (EPO) as anticancer drug. The effects of EPO on oncogenic cells and on physiology are discussed.
