Progranulin is a mediator of the wound response

Article Abstract:

This article examines the role of progranulin growth factor in the wound repair response. Research suggests that progranulin, which is a growth factor involved in tumorigenesis and development, may mediate wound response as indicated by the presence of progranulin peptides in the inflammatory cells. Furthermore, progranulin enhances the levels of neutrophils, macrophages, blood vessels and fibroblasts in the wound.

A plague upon fibrin: A surface protease helps Yersinia pestis plow its way through the body during pneumonic plague

Article Abstract:

Researchers have shown that plasminogen activator (Pla), a surface protease produced by Yersinia pestis, plays a central role in the establishment of pneumonic plague. Blocking the action of Pla might extend the time until disease develops and it might improve the effectiveness of antibiotics, thereby ultimately saving the lives of humans.

Secretory leukocyte protease inhibitor mediates non-redundant functions necessary for normal wound healing

Article Abstract:

Research demonstrates that the secretory leukocyte protease inhibitor of the mucosal fluid is involved in wound healing as shown by an impaired cutaneous wound healing in mice, deficient in the gene encoding the protein inhibitor.
