Incidence of immune reconstitution syndrome in HIV/Tuberculosis-Coinfected patients after intiation of generic antiretroviral therapy in India

Article Abstract:

The incidence of (IRS) from the developing world and implications for clinicains is described. Eleven of 144 HIV and tuberculosis (TB) coinfected individuals followed for 72 person-years developed IRS within 6 months of initiating generic highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART).

HIV testing among young adults and older adolescents in the setting of acute substance abuse treatment

Article Abstract:

Many drug addicts will accept an HIV test but it should be a rapid test than can provide results while the person is still present. Three-quarters of 204 drug addicts took an HIV test, but only 9% returned at a later date to learn the results.

Modified wick method using Weck-Cel sponges for collection of human rectal secretions and analysis of mucosal HIV antibody

Article Abstract:

Moistened Weck-Cel sponges can be used to collect rectal fluids for analysis, according to a study of eight HIV-infected women and five un-infected women. Antibodies in rectal fluids could protect women from HIV infection.
