39,000 Americans are born one-handed or single-armed, or have lost a hand or an arm in an accident. Stroke survivors often have resulting disabilities and many surviving brain trauma may have the use of just one hand. Tommye Mayer was paralyzed on her left side at the age of 23, but has since researched, written and self-published a book of solutions to living life with one hand. Tom Wenner lost his left ar in a farming accident and has also used his experiences with his own disability to help others, offering architectural advice, and is in favour of premade assistive technologies.
