Reaction divided over specification standard

Article Abstract:

Australia's occupational safety standards are being viewed in different ways by different groups. Jim Whiting of Australia's National Safety Council maintains that the standard would allow companies to be audited using international standards and that industry and government should adopt it. Gary Brack of the New South Wales Employers Federation maintains however, that the standard would not allow businesses to 'breathe' while Sue Pennicuik of the Australian Council of Trade Unions maintains that expenses could be excessive and that effectiveness could be questionable.
