Refineries pump up ergonomics

Article Abstract:

Petroleum companies such as Mobil Oil Co and Phillips Petroleum Co are increasing their focus on ergonomic issues. These corporations' refineries and equipment are designed in such a way that would reduce hand and shoulder injuries, back pains and other musculoskeletal injuries. Control rooms use ergonomically effective monitoring systems and proper lighting. Other innovations include heat protective equipment and hand tools designed to avoid injury.

Stretching the limits

Article Abstract:

The fatigue and soreness experiences of the employees of the Motorola Inc.'s Accounts Payable department has initiated the company to create a group to identify the cause of the problem and a solution.The research findings of the group which led to the improvement to the ergonomics of the industry are discussed.

Violence directed towards Dutch railway staff has prompted the industry to adopt new measures to curb the growing number of assaults. A positive change in the perception of safety in the oil industry is being attributed with a continued drop in the number of recorded injuries and fatalities.
