Refuse collection in municipalities

Article Abstract:

The collection of refuse reflects the sanitary standards of a municipality. Refuse collectors are faced with numerous work hazards such as injuries and illnesses. The risks involved in refuse collection can be prevented by maintaining and following standards of refuse collection, refuse containers and collection vehicles. Training of collectors should also be conducted to impart the safety guidelines of refuse collection. Health provisions should be implemented and the workers should be provided with personal protective equipment for use during collection.

Violence on the front line

Article Abstract:

Workplace violence comes in the form of verbal and physical abuse. But, while companies train their employees on proper handling of irate customers and managing conflict in the workplace, chances are there still will be incidents of sort. Experts suggest for firms to keep track of employees and customers exhibiting violent behavior and for employees to employ prevention strategies in order to protect themselves. Above all these precautions is the need to provide efficient customer service at all times.

Bechtel Corp. attaches great importance to workers' safety. The company, which posted its best safety record in 1995 after almost a century in the construction business, instituted a Zero-Accidents Process in mid-1992 as part of its efforts to eliminate injuries at its construction sites and office facilities. Bechtel's focus on safety has not only led to an improved safety record, but has enhanced its competitiveness and helped the company save money.
