Regional AIDS center activities in the Czech Republic

Article Abstract:

Northern Bohemia's highest incidence of sexually transmitted diseases in the Czech Republic as well as its high incidence of intravenous drug users has prompted the establishment of a regional AIDS center. The center, which is located within the infection ward of the Masaryk Hospital in Usti nad Labem, seeks to address the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of AIDS through education of the region's residents. It has since been hailed by the country's Ministry of Health as a model project.

The recent rise in prostitution in the Czech Republic

Article Abstract:

The rise in prostitution in the Czech Republic is traced to changes in the legal, social and political landscapes in the country. The abolition of a provision in the Czech Criminal Code on legal sanctions against citizens with no official source of money, for instance, has encouraged women to resort to prostitution for livelihood. Unlike forms of private enterprise, prostitution does not require knowledge, experience or capital.
