Repeat performance

Article Abstract:

Repetitive strain injury (RSI) was noted as long ago as 1713, and was generally recognised by the 1950s, though did not become newsworthy until it affected white collar workers in the 1980s. RSI is linked to faulty posture leading to injuries from static load, making fast movements repeatedly, and excessive amounts of force. VDU use involves fewer breaks than was normal when writing with a typewriter, and there are more problems with repetition and static load. By the late 1980s, the problem was taken seriously, and attention was focused on work station design, training, and working conditions, to help prevent a disorder for which no treatment has yet been developed.

Motorcycles

Article Abstract:

The UK motorcycle market is predicted to increase in volume from 145,000 new registrations in 1999 to 208,000 new registrations in 2003. Living in large cities, such as London, encourages young people to own smaller motorcycles as they are easy to drive, park and finance. Men continue to be the main purchasers of motorcycles, with 51% of women believing them to be too dangerous.
