Research interpreters wanted: apply within

Article Abstract:

Dentistry needs to have a coalition of researchers, educators and dentists to identify areas of research that could impact patient care and ensure that most practicing dentists receive this information. The National Institute of Dental Research has sponsored dental research since the 1940's, which has resulted in high-speed handpieces, dental sealants, and new restorative materials. The agency sponsors conferences to disseminate this information, but many dentists can not attend. A more efficient method is needed to transfer information from researchers to dentists.

Knowledge and attitudes of Arizona high-school coaches regarding oral-facial injuries and mouthguard use among athletes

Article Abstract:

High school coaches may be unsupportive of the use of mouthguards to prevent oral-facial injuries by athletes participating in "non-contact" sports. Mouthguards protect the teeth, jaw, and oral tissue from traumatic injuries. Researchers surveyed 508 coaches of basketball, volleyball, baseball, soccer, softball, and wrestling, and found that 72% reported oral-facial injuries in their athletes. Only 28% reported that one of their athletes used a mouthguard, and 31% said they would not recommend mouthguard usage.

Impact of older adults on private dental practices, 1988-1998

Article Abstract:

Older patients make up an increasingly larger percentage of a dentist's practice, according to surveys of dentists conducted in 1988 and again in 1998. Dentists should do what they can to provide services to the elderly.
