Rest

Article Abstract:

Prescribing rest should encompass more than bed rest. Rest comprises three components: physical, mental, and spiritual rest. However, as commonly defined in the nursing literature and as interpreted by 10 nurses interviewed on the subject, rest as a prescription meant only physical rest. Nurses should address the mental component, which is the activities and environments that relax and refresh the patient, and the spiritual component, which is those activities that engender feelings of serenity, harmony, and peace.

Therapeutic touch, dialogue, and women's experiences in breast cancer surgery

Article Abstract:

Talking with patients and using therapeutic touch may prove valuable in assisting patients before and after breast cancer surgery. Therapeutic touch involves assessing and redirecting patients' energy fields through hand movements above the body surface while in a meditative state. Positive effects may include stress and pain reduction. Documentation of these strategies' effectiveness could provide useful data for future research studies.
