Scientists plan New Orleans mold project

Article Abstract:

Scientists in New Orleans are taking part in the New Orleans Mold Project after the devastation by Hurricane Katrina to study the way molds affect people during everyday life and following extreme flooding from natural disasters. The research has linked mold to asthma symptoms in some susceptible individuals, as well as to coughing, wheezing, and upper respiratory tract symptoms in otherwise healthy people.

Markers in prenatal ultrasound debated

Article Abstract:

Doctors debated the use of ultrasound markers to detect unborn babies who have birth defects at the Radiological Society of North America 2003 annual meeting. These markers are anatomical abnormalities that can occur in healthy babies as well as those with birth defects. The best approach may be using ultrasound markers only on pregnant women who are at high risk of having a baby with a birth defect.
