Single-chamber versus dual-chamber pacing for high-grade atrioventricular block

Article Abstract:

Dual-chamber cardiac pacing is thought to confer a clinical benefit as compared with single-chamber ventricular pacing in the treatment of atrioventricular block but there is uncertainty regarding the true benefits of dual-chamber pacing in the elder patients. The pacing mode does not influence the rate of death during the first five years or the incidence of cardiovascular events during the first three years after implantation of a pacemaker in elderly patients with high-grade artrioventricular block.

Biventricular pacing

Article Abstract:

A case study of a 55-yer-old man is presented who was admitted with an exacerbation of congestive heart failure and his electrocardiogram showed sinus rhythm with a left bundle-branch block. These observations led to the concept that simultaneous pacing of both the left and right ventricles (biventricular pacing) might be beneficial in patients with heart failure to resynchronize ventricular contraction.
