US court rules to allow experimental drugs for dying patients

Article Abstract:

A US federal appeals court has ruled in May 2006 that people dying from a terminal illness have to right to buy experimental drugs from companies before the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved them. If upheld, the ruling could bring hope to people desperately trying to extend their lives and give companies complete control over terminally ill individuals who would receive the drug before approval but it could also affect the government's drug approval process.

Pandemic prevention scheme threaten diversity, experts warn

Article Abstract:

Experts have opined that fear of a bird flu pandemic in which millions of healthy and infected birds are culled threatens the survival of many rare avian species as well as puts people in developing countries at greater risk. If an entire species of birds is wiped out, it would lead to lack of animal protein and death due to malnutrition, as it is the cheapest animal protein in many developing countries.
