Slowing down the damage

Article Abstract:

Alzheimer's disease is becoming increasingly common as people live longer. One in five people over the age of 80 will have the disease. Its initial characteristics are memory loss, progressing to confusion with familiar tasks, mood swings, disorientation and incontinence. Experts believe that changes in acetylcholine production within the brain cause the disease. Diagnosis is over 80% accurate. Early diagnosis is increasingly important as drug therapies, including rivastigmine and donepezil which improve cognitive abilities, become available. They are effective only in the early stages.

Climbing frame

Article Abstract:

Nurses have to be proactive in developing their own careers. They should think about their long-term goals in relation to factors including personality, skills and values. They should seek career guidance from others, establish good working relationships with people in relevant posts, and use all opportunities, including temporary placements and project work, to develop experience relevant to career goals. Nurses should also consider their existing posts and ensure that they particularly enhance any aspects which are transferable.

So you want to be ... a solicitor

Article Abstract:

Former nurses make ideal trainee solicitors because they tend to have exceptional skills in the field of communication and teamwork, which are essential requirements when dealing with legal cases. Training to be a solicitor is a long process, often taking up to six years with no guarantee of financial rewards at the end. Nurse training is beneficial for those training in the field of medical law, providing an inside view of the medical service and how procedures are carried out.
