Endowment mortgages

Article Abstract:

House purchasers who elect to take out an endowment mortgage rather than a repayment mortgage may later regret their decision. An endowment mortgage is one in which the proportion of the monthly payment in excess of the sum needed to repay interest goes into a savings fund rather than mortgage repayment. The savings fund should be large enough at the end of the repayment period to repay the mortgage. The seller of the endowment mortgage will say that pay-out sums may exceed forecasts, but some householders have found that sums have not been high enough to pay off the mortgage.

Premium bonds

Article Abstract:

UK National Savings premium bonds are the one gambling method which also represents a form of investment. Premium bond holders enter the interest they would have earned on their savings in a monthly lottery. They have the potential to win a million pounds each month, but they can always get their capital back. The monthly draw is currently paying out 44 million pounds sterling to investors. These payments, which are not taxable, make the investment equal to a savings account with an annual gross rate of 6.25% for someone who pays tax at the basic rate.
