Soluble endoglin contributes to the pathogenesis of preeclampsia

Article Abstract:

Preeclampsia is a pregnancy-specific hypertensive syndrome that causes substantial maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality. A novel placenta-derived soluble TGF-beta coreceptor, endoglin (sEng), which is elevated in the sera of preeclamptic individuals, correlates with disease severity and falls after delivery is reported.

Kissing cousins - evidence for a common vascular cell precursor

Article Abstract:

An overview is presented on newly identified stem cells that are able of differentiating into smooth muscle and endothelial cells, and their potential role in the engineering of vascular tissue. The focus is on the relationship between endothelial cells and smooth muscle cells/pericytes.
