Article Abstract:

A hypnotherapist urges general practitioners to refer suitable patients for hypnotherapy as it can be a cost-effective alternative to conventional medicine. It is particularly useful in cases where anxiety and stress have caused physical problems. Courses of treatment should be short and, apart from hypnosis, they offer patients techniques with which to address problems in their daily lives. However, the hypnotherapist reports one case is which her work restored to health a patient with severe symptoms of multiple sclerosis, and also enabled the patient to undergo an operation without anaesthetic.

Article Abstract:

The World Health Organization (WHO) has issued a European policy document. It establishes the framework for improving public health throughout the 51 European WHO member nations in the 21st century. The policy focuses on the reduction of poverty and social exclusion as the main means of improving public health, identifies key areas needing improvement, and identifies nurses, particularly family nurses, as the key group to effect change. Nurses in some countries are ill-prepared to tackle such an agenda but a WHO group is preparing strategies for professional development at different levels.

Article Abstract:

A patients' forum at Homeward Rehabilitation Unit, Brighton General Hospital, England has resulted in practical and psychological benefits for patients. Group discussions enabled patients to voice concerns over their hospital environment. Practical changes resulted from criticisms. Rehabilitation activities of reactivation, resocialisation and reintegration provided therapeutic value. The patients also developed personal relationships. The success of the scheme prompted the production of a newsletter.
