Stretch your ergonomics dollar

Article Abstract:

Ergonomics may be implemented without having to dish out a lot of money. Low-cost ergonomics may be managed by committing company resources to bringing out innovative ways in implementing ergonomics. Employees' ideas may be tapped, because a survey reveals that ergonomic innovations come from non-supervisory employees (29%), supervisory employees (25%), safety and industrial hygiene staff (21%) and outside consultants (15%).

Safety incentives: too much of a good thing?

Article Abstract:

Safety incentives have worked so far in reducing the number of workplace accidents but they have to be properly planned so that they do not punish workers and that they do not foster a fear of reporting injuries. These incentives have to be used within a larger context of a comprehensive safety program while safety programs have to be regularly evaluated to ensure that their purpose is served.

Joint safety committees: how to make them work for you

Article Abstract:

Joint safety committees established by employers should be characterized by open two-way communication between managers and employees to ensure their success. Feedback should be welcomed by employers as a way of assessing the effectiveness of the system. Employees should be trained in basic safety courses and their knowledge on health should be continually expanded through seminars.
