Superfund basic research: a state's perspective on health affects research needs

Article Abstract:

The Natl. Inst. of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) is to again announce availability of funds for the Superfund Hazardous Substances Basic Research and Training Program. Achieving the best cost-benefit ratio is important. State health agencies differ in roles related to hazardous waste sites. A state's perspective on health affects research decisions in that state. Research that would provide understanding and information on the human health effects coming from exposure to hazardous chemicals would be helpful to states in making decisions. Some questions are state-specific. More information for the Integrated Risk Information System database would be valuable. Information on risk of exposure to chemicals by inhalation or to multiple related chemicals is lacking.
