Suppressing a sick heart

Article Abstract:

A novel negative regulatory pathway governing pathologic cardiac growth is represented by the NGFI-A binding protein (NAB1)-early growth response (Egr) interaction. NAB1 is a transcriptional repressor that interacts directly with the transcription factor Egr-1 and helps in the negative regulation of pathologic cardiac hypertrophy.

Transcription factor Ggr-1 supports FGF-dependent angiogenesis during neovascularization and tumor growth

Article Abstract:

RNA -cleaving phosphodiester- linked DNA- based enzymes, targeting a specific motif in the 5' untranslated region of early growth response mRNA, inhibit Egr-1 protein expression, microvascular endothelial cell replication and migration, and microtubule network formation on basement membrane matrices.

New DNA enzyme targeting Egr-1 mRNA inhibits vascular smooth muscle proliferation and regrowth after injury

Article Abstract:

A DNA enzyme that cleaves early growth response factor-1 (Egr-1) inhibits cell proliferation and wound repair. This enzyme would be useful for treating patients with atherosclerosis, which is caused partly by abnormal cell proliferation and wound repair.
