Sustained survival of human hepatocytes in mice: a model for in vivo infection with human hepatitis B and hepatitis delta viruses

Article Abstract:

Engrafting infected human hepatocytes to mice with livers susceptible to hepatitis B produced that disease in mice. This xenotransplant model offers new opportunities to study human hepatitis viral infections.

Inhibition of hepatitis B virus in mice by RNA interference

Article Abstract:

A demonstration that expressed shRNAs targeting hepatitis B virus (HBV) mRNAs inhibited the steps in HBV replication that occur in cultured cells and immunocompetent and immunodeficient mice is presented. Northern and Southern analyses of mouse liver RNA and DNA reveal substantially reduced levels of HBV RNAs and replicated HBV genomes upon RNAi treatment.

Successful transduction of liver in hemophilia by AAV-Factor IX and limitations imposed by the host immune response

Article Abstract:

Hemophilia B is a bleeding diathesis caused by mutations in the gene encoding blood coagulation Factor IX (F.IX). The majority of individuals with hemophilia B have severe disease, with <1% normal circulating levels of F.IX activity, improvement of levels into the range of only 5% results in a profound improvement in symptoms and is sufficient to prevent spontaneous and life-threatening bleeding episodes.
