Symptoms at odds with virus profile in disease outbreak
Article Abstract:
The virus that has been linked with adult respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) has a different set of symptoms from those observed in the 1993 outbreak of the disease. Hantavirus is usually associated with hemorrhagic fever and is found in Europe and Asia. It is spread through contact with infected rodent droppings or saliva. Some researchers theorize that a new hantavirus variant may be responsible for the ARDS outbreak. Others speculate that viruses may combine to cause the disease.

Weighing HIV risks: Ala. court to rule if testing without consent sacrifices patient rights for physician safety
Article Abstract:
An Alabama court will decide on the constitutionality of the state's law permitting a physician to order HIV tests without the patient's informed consent. Under the law, a physician may decide whether or not the subject presents a high risk of infection. Robert Hill, an AIDS volunteer, has filed suit describing the law as too broad. Both sides plan to appeal the decision.
