Syncytiotrophoblastic vesicles in placental intervillous space

Article Abstract:

The origin and function of vesicles found in the intervillous space is investigated by conducting a retrospective study using placental sections of different gestational ages. Conclusion reveals that the vesicles containing beta-human chorionic gonadotropin (beta-hCG) and human placental lactogen (hPL) suggest a different secretory mechanism of syncytiotrophoblast.

Premature rupture of the fetal membranes: Is the amnion the major determinant?

Article Abstract:

The relative contributions of amnion and chorion to the strength of fetal membranes are evaluated and correlated with gestational age. The amnion is stronger than the chorion when subjected to biaxial strength testing and it is significantly affected by the chemical and mechanical changes during the gestation and the labor process.

Influence of oxytocin on prostaglandin E(sub 2), intracellular calcium, and cyclic adenosine monophosphate in human amnion-derived (WISH) cells

Article Abstract:

Oxytocin stimulates the production of prostaglandin E(sub 2) in WISH cells, which are a cell line derived from amniotic tissue. Oxytocin is used to induce labor, and this shows that it acts partly by stimulating prostaglandin production.
