Targeted disruption of AdipoR1 and AdipoR2 causes abrogation of adiponectin binding and metabolic actions

Article Abstract:

Adenovirus-mediated expression of AdipoR1 and R2 in the liver of [Lepr.sup.-1-] mice has increased the AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) activation and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR)-[alpha] signaling pathways, respectively. The analysis has shown that AdipoR1 and R2 serve as the physiologically important receptors for adiponectin in vivo and also play key roles in the regulation of glucose and lipid metabolism, inflammation and oxidative stress in vivo.

TFE3 transcriptionally activates hepatic IRS-2, participates in insulin signaling and ameliorates diabetes

Article Abstract:

The implementation of an expression cloning strategy reveals that the basic helix-loop helix protein, TFE3 can be used as a transactivator of metabolic genes that are regulated through an E-box in their promoters. The results show that TFE3 activates the hepatocytes like IRS-2, which further leads to the activation of insulin signals in both insulin depletion and resistance and can be of a great help in the treatment of diabetes.

Crucial role of a long-chain fatty acid elongase, Elovl6, in obesity-induced insulin resistance

Article Abstract:

The effects of elongation of long-chain fatty acids family member 6, Elovl6, on obesity, hepatic steatosis and insulin resistance for understanding the roles of fatty acid composition in obesity-related states are analyzed. Results reveal that modifications of hepatic fatty acid composition could improve the insulin resistance and hyperglycemia even in presence of persistent obesity and hepatosteatosis.
