Technology in the operating suite

Article Abstract:

Innovation has led the surgical teams to use tools and techniques that are different from those used decades ago. The most visually dramatic change in the modern operating room is the arrival of remote computer-assisted telemanipulators, commonly referred to as 'robots'. The way in which the systems strength and limitations have directed an important development research regarding future systems and improvements to current systems is described.

Medical device-associated safety and risk: surveillance and stratagems

Article Abstract:

The difficulties in identifying adverse effects of medical devices are described, based on a study published in 2004. The researchers used several different systems to identify medical device adverse events, but no one system was able to identify all the adverse events. Advances in reporting tools may make it easier to collect data on medical device adverse events.
