Temporary transvenous cardiac pacing

Article Abstract:

There are two types of internal pacing systems. Permanent pacemakers are fitted by surgeons. Temporary transvenous pacemakers are attached to an external pacemaker generator. The pacing electrode for a transvenous pacemaker is inserted into a large vein and fed into the right ventricle. Patients should be as relaxed as possible and a local anaesthetic given before the pacing wire is inserted. The settings must be checked before the generator is switched on. Nurses need to get medical assistance if the patient appears breathless or has hiccups.

Electrocardiography

Article Abstract:

The electrocardiograph (ECG) is used to analyse the rhythm of the human heartbeat and is particularly useful when monitoring patients with a heart disorder. Electronic signals from the muscle fibres are magnified by an amplifier onto the ECG display. The heart rate can be calculated by counting the heartbeat's repetitive pattern over a specific time period. Pacemakers can be used to initiate the heartbeat of a weak heart, on a regular or emergency basis.

Cardiac pacing

Article Abstract:

The complete information about cardiac pacing, for which type of patients it is inserted and how it works are discussed. Cardiac pacing involves the fitting of a pacemaker, which delivers an electrical impulse that makes the heart depolarize and contract and accordingly regulate the heart rate.
