The "Ambient Experience": Pediatric patients and diagnostic testing

Article Abstract:

American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Society of Anesthesiologists have developed practical standards to reduce the risk of complications during medical and diagnostic procedures involving a child. When application of these standards did not offer much help, Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Illinois, developed an Ambient Experience, allowing the children to relax and feel comfortable while undergoing CT scans.

Pay-for-performance: Will it work?

Article Abstract:

The first year results of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services/Premier Demonstration Project show that pay-for-performance would become integral to health care reimbursement. The program, although competitive, would further promote credibility between payers, physicians, and hospitals in the eyes of the consumer.

Develop a medication reconciliation process

Article Abstract:

The importance of developing a medication reconciliation process by which a complete list of a patient's current medication is documented upon admission into a health care organization is discussed. The process involves four steps that would be useful in standardizing patient care and prevention of errors.
