The Essence of Care benchmark for patient health promotion

Article Abstract:

A new benchmark for health promotion has been added to Essence of Care, the government strategy to improve the quality of the fundamental aspects of nursing care. The benchmark provides a tool for making health promotion part of everyday practice and it focuses on a range of measures designed to help nurses provide effective advice on healthier lifestyle choices.

An overview of the new NICE guidelines on bipolar disorder

Article Abstract:

New guidelines which provide recommendations for nurses on the assessment, treatment and long-term management of bipolar disorder are described. Bipolar disorder is a debilitating condition and the guidelines suggest pharmaceutical and psychological interventions, self-help strategies, availability of mental health services and proper nursing care.

The control and prevention of hospital-acquired infections

Article Abstract:

The number of cases in methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus (MSRA) increased from 7250 in 2001-2002 to 7647 in 2003-2004. Because of this increase, new action plans for prevention and control of infection are adopted.
