The bicycle thief: World War II hero Roger Johnson, MD, found a big way to make amends for a small crime he committed nearly 50 years ago

Article Abstract:

Dr. Roger S. Johnson, a retired physician who reports some of his experiences as a bombardier in World War II, tells about an occasion when he 'borrowed' a bicycle to get back to his base after a weekend in London. After retirement from the practice of medicine, Johnson studied law, and guilt feelings about the bicycle theft began to haunt him. Subsequently, he visited England and donated 100 Raleigh bicycles to children in the community where the incident occurred.
