The causes and incidence of haematological malignancies

Article Abstract:

Malignant disease is the result of abnormal cell growth. Haematological malignancy is a malignant disease of which the most well-know form is leukaemia. Although all the causes of leukaemia are not yet known, it is agreed that ionising radiation, smoking and exposure to certain chemicals are implicated in many cases of haematological malignancy. Details of research into childhood leukaemia are presented, plus current knowledge about the causes and incidence of haematological malignancies.

Understanding acute and chronic myeloid leukeamia

Article Abstract:

Chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML) can be considered as a stem cell leukeamia and there is only one form of the disease which presents with minor variations. There are several different forms of acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) showing differences in response to therapy. Both AML and CML are diseases of later life and the incidence of CML is higher in men than women.
