The clot thickens - oxidized lipids and thrombosis

Article Abstract:

Researchers have shown that oxidized choline glycrophospholipids ([oxPC.sub.CD36]) have caused platelet activation through CD36 and have provided insights into the relationship between dyslipidemia, oxidative stress and thrombosis. The results have shown that diet-induced modifications of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) during dyslipidemia have caused generation of the prothrombotic molecules.

PI 3-kinase p110beta: A new target for antithrombotic therap

Article Abstract:

A study defines a key role for the type la phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K) p110beta isoform in regulating the formation and stability integrin alpha(sub IIb)beta3 adhesion bonds, necessary for shear activation of platelets. It is defined as an important new target for antithrombotic therapy.
