The effect of topical 20% benzocaine on pain during loop electrosurgical excision of the cervix

Article Abstract:

Applying a 20% benzocaine gel to the cervix before anesthesia injection and surgical removal of part of the cervix may not reduce pain. Researchers used either benzocaine or a placebo gel on 50 women undergoing electrosurgical removal of cervical tissues. The 20% benzocaine gel did not seem to provide any more pain relief than the placebo during injection of anesthesia into the cervix or during the surgical procedure, according to the women. The reason for the failure of benzocaine to relieve pain may be that the affected nerve endings are deeper in the cervix than the topical benzocaine can reach.

Comparison of multidose and single-dose methotrexate protocols for the treatment of ectopic pregnancy

Article Abstract:

The study compared success rates of 643 patients who had ectopic pregnancy from the same database who were treated with multidose or single-dose methotrexate protocols. It is suggested that single-dose methotrexate therapy is as effective as multidose methptrexate therapy for the treatment of ectopic pregnancy.
