The entry gates

Article Abstract:

The criteria required for entry to post-registration education for nurses should be changed to provide wider eligibility, according to the English National Board. Nurses are only permitted to undertake post-registration study in fields in which they already have qualifications. Some nursing fields such as paediatric intensive care are subsequently suffering from a shortfall in qualified nurses as general nurses are unable to pursue the necessary qualification despite their overall expertise.

Leading lights

Article Abstract:

The Johnson and Johnson/King's Fund UK nursing leadership programme, a two-year scheme which is to commence shortly, will involve 20 nurses from across the UK. These nurses have already shown that they take an innovative approach to their work, and the programme aims to help them to become part of the next generation of leaders within the National Health Service. It will give them a range of leadership skills, ensuring that they will be able to influence health care as well as nursing.
