The humoral side of insulin resistance

Article Abstract:

Studies are being conducted to show that the insulin resistance in humans, which is the cause for diabetes and a large number of cardiovascular diseases, is caused by various factors, one of them being the primary alterations in insulin signaling pathways. The analyses show that the disruption of the insulin signaling in responsive tissues by various humoral factors of different pathological levels is also a big factor responsible for the generation of insulin resistance.

Progress in cardiovascular biology: PPAR for the course

Article Abstract:

Research presented suggests that peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR) ligands aid in the regulation of genes that oversee glucose and lipid metabolism. Because PPAR ligands appear to decrease lipids in foamy macrophages, they may be useful to treat conditions such as diabetes and atherosclerosis.

AML1-ETO downregulates the granulocytic differentiation factor C/EBP(alpha) in t(8;21) myeloid leukemia

Article Abstract:

Research presented concerns the genes and transcriptional factors involved in granulocyte differentiation, focusing on the mutation of the C/EBP(alpha) gene in some acute myeloid leukemia patients. Findings suggest therapeutic potential for induced expression of C/EBP(alpha) in leukemia patients.
