When Assistant Secretary Charles Jeffress leaves the US Occupational Safety and Health Administration he will be remembered for his work on the ergonomics standard. However, his most lasting legacy may be the top level appointments he has made.

The legacy of Charles Jeffress: one year into the job, the new head of OSHA prepares for his toughest challenges

Article Abstract:

Occupational Safety and Health Administration Asst Sec Charles Jeffress faced several challenges during his first year on the job. Foremost is the difficulty in developing new standards for ergonomics and safety and health programs amidst disputes over whether standards are needed in the first place. Nonetheless, Jeffress has demonstrated that he is up to these tasks and is expected to make some real progress in addressing the standard issue in 1999.
