The lively art of conversation - on anything but medicine

Article Abstract:

A group of Winchester, MA, physicians meets at a member's house every six weeks to listen to a speaker and have an informal discussion. The idea of the meetings, where medicine is the only topic off-limits, is to help the physicians get to know each other outside the hospital. The group also subscribes to the idea that a well-rounded person makes a better doctor. Topics have ranged from a four-part series on Japanese culture to Native American artifacts unearthed during construction of the Boston tunnel.

M. Roy Schwarz, AMA vp, points to the need to recognize behavioral problems that affect health.
