Obstetric emergencies precipitated by malignant brain tumors

Article Abstract:

Brain tumors can be an emergency during pregnancy and many women may need a cesarean delivery. In a study of 8 women diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor during pregnancy, all were delivered be cesarean prematurely. Four died but only one baby died.

The presence of hepatitis B surface antigen and deoxyribonucleic acid in amniotic fluid and cord blood

Article Abstract:

The hepatitis B virus is probably not transmitted from a pregnant woman to her baby before delivery. This means that amniocentesis is not a risk factor for hepatitis B transmission.

Interstitial brachytherapy in the treatment of advanced and recurrent vulvar cancer

Article Abstract:

Interstitial brachytherapy may be effective in women with cancer of the vulva. This form of radiation treatment is delivered through needles that can be inserted into the skin and tissues. This allows the radiation to be delivered to a smaller area, with fewer side effects.
