The unit nurse executive: a changing perspective

Article Abstract:

A survey of 74 unit nurse managers at five different types of hospitals found that many agreed that administrative duties were part of their job but they found few opportunities to fill the administrative role. As health care becomes more decentralized, unit nurse managers will play a greater role in the decision-making process. Many unit nurse managers are hired because of their clinical skills and may lack training in administration.

Nurse-physician interaction and job satisfaction

Article Abstract:

The attitudes between doctors and nurses at one 1,000-bed veteran's administration hospital appear to be positive. Five doctors and 22 registered nurses at this hospital completed a two-part questionnaire. Doctors and nurses chose different words and phrases to describe their interactions but those chosen were positive. The nurse practitioner may play an underlying role in the positive attitudes developed between nurse and doctor.

Nurse practitioner Medicare reimbursement goes to President

Article Abstract:

The omnibus budget reconciliation package passed by the Senate in November, 1995, contains several changes to the Medicare and Medicaid programs. Medicare beneficiaries will be allowed to enroll in a managed care program. Medicaid would be eliminated in favor of block grants to states, which would design their own programs. Nurse practitioners would be able to recover the costs of treating Medicare patients.
