Therapeutic administration of progesterone antagonist in a model of Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease (CMT-1A)

Article Abstract:

The introduction of extra copies of Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease (CMT) gene, Pmp22 (peripheral myelin protein of 22 kDa) into transgenic rats, had generated a model of CMT, subtype 1A (CMT-1A). The model was tested to study the modulation effect of progesterone on neuropathy caused by moderate overexpression of Pmp22.

Shaping of the autoreactive T-cell repertoire by a splice variant of self protein expressed in thymic epithelial cells

Article Abstract:

Research presented concerns immunological tolerance and the physiological mechanisms that protect against autoimmune diseases. Topics addressed include T-cell tolerance to proteolipid protein, and susceptibility to multiple sclerosis.

Autoimmune T cells protect neurons from secondary degeneration after central nervous system axotomy

Article Abstract:

The authors point out that while T cells can contribute to autoimmune diseases, they can also be protective. In the instance of a partially crushed optic nerve, specific T cells prevented further deterioration.
