Modern life often leaves people with little time alone, and researchers believe that this is not good for our mental health or nervous systems. Daily periods of solitude are important and can help improve creativity, sharpen memory, and enhance understanding of personal relationships. Tips for finding time alone and advice for women traveling alone are included.

Even brief periods of meditation can alleviate pain, stress, sleeplessness, and anxiety. It can easily be done almost anywhere, including at one's office. For maximum benefit, people should meditate for 10 to 20 minutes per day, but as little as one or two minutes can also produce results.
