Tobacco issues resurface in Europe

This article examines the controversy over whether or not some of Britain's research universities should accept money from tobacco companies to further scientific research. Topics discussed include the Cancer Research Campaign's opposition to the funding, as well as anti-smoking policies across Europe.

FDA subcommittee finds no evidence of PERV transmission

Article Abstract:

An FDA subcommittee found no evidence of porcine endogenous retrovirus transmission in any patients who have received a porcine xenotransplant. So far only cells have been transplanted. The subcommittee spelled out the conditions required for the transplantation of whole organs.

UNAIDS releases long-awaited HIV vaccine guidelines

Article Abstract:

The United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) has published guidelines for all researchers who want to test AIDS vaccines. Critics say the guidelines may not protect volunteers in developing countries who become HIV-infected during the trial.
