Total body protein status assessed by different estimates of fat-free mass in adult peritoneal dialysis patients

Article Abstract:

The estimates of fat-free mass from X-ray absorptiometry and whole body counting of total body potassium are useful indices of total body protein status in patients with continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis. However, similar estimate from creatinine kinetics fails to provide an accurate index for total body protein level. The estimates from X-ray absorptiometry and whole body counting show the total body protein status even at significantly reduced levels.

Fascial planes within subcutaneous fat in humans

Article Abstract:

The structure of human subcutaneous fat layers are found to be similar to that of other animals such as pigs. Research indicates that the purpose of this layer is to store energy. Ultrasound analysis of the layers show that the fascial planes within the subcutaneous fats are relatively stable and have a well-defined structure. Moreover, the superficial layer of adipose tissue appears constant over a wide range of body fatness.
