Total energy expenditure in 9 month and 12 month infants

Article Abstract:

A cross-sectional study was conducted to compare the actual total energy expenditure of nine- and 12-month-old infants with current recommendations for energy intake. The total energy expenditures, as measured by the doubly labelled water technique were found to be about 17% and 22% below the current recommendations for nine- and 12-month-old infants, respectively. Such findings appear to be due to changes in feeding practices and modification of infant formula composition.

Plasma and erthrocyte alpha-tocopherol and plasma retinal concentrations in term infants fed formula enriched with long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids

Article Abstract:

A new study investigates the effect of infant formula enriched with vitamin E and long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids on the plasma and erythrocyte alpha-tocopherol and plasma retinol in term infants. It is shown that breast-fed infants and those fed with the enriched and unenriched formula for three months have similar vitamin E and vitamin A status.
