Transformational leadership

Article Abstract:

The restructuring of the health-care system should ultimately increase patient satisfaction, but will cause conflicts and competition among institutions during the transition. Administrators and nursing executives must provide transformational leadership to cope with conflict and view the changes as positive. Such leaders communication the organization's vision to employees and empowers others to resolve conflicts.

Shared leadership in a newly merged medical center

Article Abstract:

Merging health care entities requires nurse administrators to adopt entrepreneurial values. Two Northwest healthcare competitors successfully merged primarily due to shared leadership. Nurse administrators from both bodies formed a shared mission statement, defined core values, and established guiding principles. The merger achieved its goal of improving health care services for the community.

Article Abstract:

Senior nurse executives (SNEs) have gone from struggling to be recognized to full acknowledgment from the highest medical executive ranks in a single generation. CEOs are interested in the entrepreneurial leadership skills of SNEs, but look for increasing business and financial expertise. The skill sets of SNEs reflect changes sweeping the health care industry.
