Translational and clinical science - Time for a new vision

Article Abstract:

Translational and clinical research though are core components of a full-spectrum biomedical research enterprise, these critical arenas of research are hampered by increase in costs and complexity. National Institutes of Health has funded facilities, resources, or both to bolster clinical and translational research such as the General Clinical Research Centers, grants for individual or institutional training, and clinical-trial networks to attract and retain scientists to this field.

Article Abstract:

Two outpatient clinics serving the disenfranchised have adapted in creative ways to deliver community-based care to Hurricane Katrina-hit New Orleans. Charity Hospital's HIV Outpatient (HOP) Clinic, reconstituted itself with a much smaller staff in the aftermath of Katrina and the Common Ground Health Clinic drew volunteers from around the country to serve New Orleans residents.

Questions for an epidemic

Article Abstract:

The fears of terrorism, anxiety about the stagnant economy, worry over the health care system has eclipsed the sense of immediacy of the AIDS epidemic. Inspite of having the most number of HIV research laboratories in the US, there still has to be a substantial effort made in immediately controlling the killer HIV virus.
