Transvaginal versus transperineal ultrasonography: a blinded comparison in the assessment of cervical length at midgestation

Article Abstract:

Transvaginal ultrasonography may compare well to transperineal ultrasonography when measuring cervical length in pregnant women. Measuring the cervix via ultrasound may help detect the risk of premature labor and delivery. In a group of 206 pregnant women, highly skilled sonographers with good technique achieved a 95% agreement within 5 mm between transvaginal and transperineal ultrasound imaging.

Transperineal versus endovaginal ultrasonographic examination of the cervix in the midtrimester: a blinded comparison

Article Abstract:

Transperineal imaging of the cervix in pregnant women is not as effective as endovaginal imaging for measuring the length of the cervix. Some studies have shown that a shortening of the cervix before a woman's due date is a sign of possible premature labor.

Human chorionic gonadotropin exhibits potent inhibition of preterm delivery in a small animal model

Article Abstract:
