Treatment of low-risk metastatic gestation trophoblastic tumors with single-agent chemotherapy

Article Abstract:

Low-risk metastatic uterine tumors resulting from pregnancy may be successfully treated with methotrexate and actinomycin D chemotherapy. Researchers reviewed the medical records over a 30 year period of 92 women with gestational trophoblastic tumors treated with single-agent chemotherapy. Women with low-risk metastatic gestational trophoblastic tumors were treated successfully. Sixty-two patients were treated with one regimen of single-agent chemotherapy, 30 patients required a second single-agent treatment, and just one patient needed multidrug chemotherapy. Twenty-two patients underwent hysterectomy. Metastasis to the vagina was related to single-agent chemotherapy failure.

Efficacy of methotrexate treatment in viable and nonviable cervical pregnancies

Article Abstract:

The drug methotrexate appears to be effective in treating a cervical pregnancy while still preserving the uterus. A cervical pregnancy occurs when the developing embryo implants in the cervix instead of the uterus. Over 90% of the 62 women who received the drug successfully aborted the fetus whether it was viable or non-viable.
