Effects of Vitamin E on Lipid Peroxidation in Healthy Persons

Article Abstract:

Vitamin E supplements do not appear to decrease lipid peroxidation in healthy adults, according to a study of 30 people who took a placebo or one of five different doses of vitamin E for eight weeks. This indicates that many healthy people may not need to take vitamin E supplements.

No evidence for lipid peroxidation in severe preeclampsia

Article Abstract:

Preeclampsia does not appear to be caused by excessive oxidation of fats, according to researchers who measured levels of a specific free radical in urine samples from 29 pregnant women with preeclampsia. Preeclampsia is a serious complication of pregnancy.

Two-stage elevation of cell-free fetal DNA in maternal sera before onset of preeclampsia

Article Abstract:

Preeclampsia is accompanied by a two-stage elevation of fetal DNA, but not by elevation of C-reactive protein (CRP). Elevated cell-free fetal DNA at 17 to 28 weeks is due to placental necrosis and apoptosis. The measurement of fetal DNA both to screen for preeclampsia and to indicate impending clinical disease is suggested by two-stage elevation.
